This is what we started with. A very sweet family from Greg's church gave it to us when we were young newly weds, and had no furniture at all. It has been a great table for the last 6 years. It was just starting to look a little worn out. So I decided that I would paint it red, and I got started.
You've probably heard people say that red is a very hard color to work with. It takes a million coats, blah, blah, blah. Let me just set the record straight right here and now, they lied, they made it seem to easy. Red is a horrible color to paint with, it takes a billion coats, and it is the biggest pain in the butt ever. Run away from the color red, and don't look back.
I love, love, love the way it turned out though! I have 2 more chairs that I still need to paint. The 2 end chairs are the original chairs. The 2 chairs along the back are from the salvation army. I bought a set of 4 from there.

Wanted to answer a readers question about what color red I used. It is called Tuscan Red by General Finishes. I bought it at a unfinished wood store. Here is a picture of the can in case you want to go looking for it.

What a great color for this set. You gave it personality and it looks like new! Red is a hard color to paint with but worth the elbow grease. Looks great!

That's pretty. I used to have a table and chair set just like that. Never thought to paint it. But it looks good!
ReplyDeleteNice. Red is awesome. GREAT job!

Have a great day!
The red table is fabulous! I just sprayed a huge red desk today! I'll have to say, I used Behr paint and primer and it was a snap! Maybe I just got lucky! Anyways, yours is terrific!
ReplyDeleteNice redo! I have heard that about red also.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the red! But, I have to admit, I'd never paint it myself, lol! The only color worse than red is black. I once did a client's baseboards and stair railing black, and black, and black. I can't remember how many coats, but waaay too many!
ReplyDeleteWould love for you to stop by this weekend and link up to Passion for Paint!
So cute! I just repainted all my kitchen chairs turquoise.
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect color red - my favorite with a blue undertone. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI have a table similar to that, but it has a tile top. I hate it and want to give it a make over. Do you have any suggestions? Can one paint over the ugly (fruit themed) tile?
ReplyDeleteLizzie - I don't think that you can really paint over the tiles. If I were you I would paint the all the wood and the chairs and get/make some table cloths.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the red color! Great job! Visiting from Funky Junk Interiors.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job its beautiful, i have a few things i want to paint red do you mind sharing the name of your paint color??
ReplyDeleteI don't think that you're crazy. My decorating philosophy is do what you love, have fun, and don't worry about what other people would think!
ReplyDeleteI love the painted table. I'm glad you had the courage to do it! :)

Did you sand the table first. I have a similar table and I so want to do this but I haven't because I am not looking forward to sanding it.
